Who it's for
Small freight brokers and owner-operators who want a real, mileage-weighted profit-per-mile figure across their loads, not a misleadingly simple average.
Key features
- Load ID, miles, rate per mile, and fuel & other costs fields per load
- Gross revenue and estimated load profit calculated automatically per load
- Estimated profit per mile calculated automatically for each load
- Total estimated load profit calculated automatically across every load
- Overall profit per mile calculated as total profit over total miles — weighted by mileage, not an average of each load's ratio
- Exports to a real .xlsx file
How to use it
- Click "Use this template" to open it in FLYNT Sheets
- Log each load's ID, miles, rate per mile, and fuel & other costs in its own row
- Gross revenue and estimated load profit calculate automatically for that row
- Add a new row for every load going forward
- Review total estimated load profit and the overall (mileage-weighted) profit per mile below the log
What's included
- Two example loads with miles, rate, and costs already filled in
- Gross revenue, estimated load profit, per-row profit per mile, total profit, and overall mileage-weighted profit-per-mile formulas already wired up
Common use cases
- Comparing two loads to see which one is actually more profitable per mile, not just which pays a higher rate
- Keeping a running profitability record across every load you haul
- Checking your true overall profit per mile instead of eyeballing an average across trips of very different lengths
Frequently asked questions
- Why is the overall profit per mile different from just averaging each load's profit per mile?
- Averaging each load's own profit-per-mile ratio gives a short load the same weight as a long one, even though it contributed far fewer total miles — that overstates your real per-mile profitability. This template instead divides your total estimated profit by your total miles across every load, which correctly weights each load by how much it actually contributed.
- Does "estimated load profit" cover every cost of running my truck?
- No — it nets only the fuel & other costs you enter per load. It doesn't include permits, insurance, depreciation, or other fixed operating costs, so treat it as your per-load estimate, not your full business net profit.
- Is this free to use?
- Yes, on FLYNT's free plan — no credit card required.
